Intel’s XeSS tested in depth vs DLSS: Unexpected results

Intel is including DLSS competitor XeSS technology in its graphics card models. Processor giant Intel’s desktop graphics card class currently includes the Arc A770, Arc A750, Arc A580, Arc A380, and Arc A310 models. All of these graphics cards feature DLSS rival XeSS technology.

The technology, which stands for Xe Super Sampling, brings a significant performance increase by increasing the low resolution with artificial intelligence. While doing this, it does not create excessive graphics distortion. But Intel’s XeSS isn’t perfect yet. The technology, which has problems with fine details and can show more visual distortion, can also cause ghosting problems in moving objects.

Despite these, the quality-performance level of the technology exceeds expectations. Also, Intel is expected to improve this technology and make it better continuously. As far as XeSS is reported, it is only supported by 21 games for now. The Arc A770 model is at the top of the family, while the Arc A310 model is at the bottom.

The Arc A770, also used by Digital Foundry, has 32 Xe cores, 32 Ray Tracing units, 8 GB or 16 GB VRAM, 560 GB/s memory bandwidth, 2,100 MHz core clock speed and 512 XMX. Intel Arc A750 has 28 Xe cores, 28 Ray Tracing units, 8 GB VRAM, 512 GB/s memory bandwidth, 2,050 MHz core clock speed and 448 XMX. The Arc A580 has 24 Xe cores, 24 Ray Tracing units, 8 GB VRAM, 512 GB/s memory bandwidth, 1,700 MHz core clock speed and 384 XMX.

The Arc A380, which is far behind the others, has 8 Xe cores, 8 Ray Tracing units, 6 GB VRAM, 186 GB/s memory bandwidth, 2,000 MHz core clock speed and 128 XMX. According to the calculations, the Arc A770 model faces the Radeon RX 6900XT in the tests. For Arc A750, the opponent is Radeon RX 6600XT, and for Arc 580, the opponent is RTX 3070. The A380, on the other hand, seems to be up against the Nvidia GTX 1660 Super.
